Firewall Policy
The Joint Commission’s highest priority is to maintain the integrity of its accreditation process. A robust Firewall Policy is in place to eliminate any conflict of interest between the Joint Commission’s accreditation activities and consultative technical assistance services provided by Joint Commission Resources.
The policy prohibits the sharing of any healthcare organization specific information between accreditation and consultative technical assistance personnel. It also prohibits consultants from providing assistance to any organization during the accreditation survey and when responding to survey findings. The policy is board-approved and audited for compliance annually. It is monitored by The Joint Commission’s Corporate Compliance and Privacy Officer. All staff are trained on and expected to adhere to the policy to ensure the integrity of the accreditation process and the avoidance of any real or perceived conflicts of interest.
