About Dr. Ashraf Ismail

JCI's Middle East Region

Introduction

As I begin my work for JCI, I think about how my goal as a physician is aligned with JCI’s mission; to reach every patient and touch every hospital to improve quality and safety.

Quality and safety in hospitals and other health care organizations should not be limited to those who can afford it.  We need to reach hospitals and other health care organizations (primary care, labs, etc..) to introduce and/or reinforce the concepts of quality and safety and link the accreditation process and JCI Standards to the existing processes in the organization.  We want implementation of high quality care and safety of patients and families that will push and advance health care in this region.

There are many professionals in this region that have pursued quality as a career.  I believe we need to expand on this – these quality professionals should be aware of the latest in the applications of quality and safety. Part of our mission to touch every hospital and reach every patient would not come unless we empower organizations and staff with knowledge and skills to implement quality and safety.

We are on a quest for advances in medicine to serve all human beings.  Wherever advances happen in the world – we need to get them applied.  Every patient should benefit from global advancement through local implementation.

Let me know what issues or challenges you face and I will be glad to address them in upcoming articles.
