Derick P. Pasternak, MD, MBA, FACPE

With more than 35 years of experience in the health care field and more than 15 years as a health care executive, Derick P. Pasternak is a board certified internal medicine specialist. He has consulted extensively since 1993 in the Middle East, Central and Southern Asia, Pacific Rim, Eastern and Western Europe, and Latin America and served as the first Managing Director of the JCI Middle East Office. His expertise includes
patient safety, quality measurement and management, and medical staff issues.
Dr. Pasternak’s previous experience includes serving as the CEO of the Lovelace Health Systems of Albuquerque, NM, a 300-member medical group, 150-bed hospital and 20+ affiliated clinics with more than one million outpatient visits annually. He also served as Senior Executive in the Providence Health System in Seattle, WA, and as CEO of Medalia Healthcare Inc., a 300-physician primary care organization that managed 100,000 capitated lives in addition to a large fee-for-service patient base.
He is the author of several articles and an eBook on the subject of health care quality and medical management. He actively participated in the development of the World Health Organization’s standards for HIV/AIDS services. He is a past Clinical Associate Professor of Medicine at the University New Mexico (1974-95), and the U. of Illinois School of Medicine (1995-98) and Clinical Professor of Health Care Management at the University of Washington School of Public Health and Community Medicine (2000-05).
Dr. Pasternak received his medical degree from Harvard University and holds an M.B.A from Anderson School of Management, University of New Mexico
Dr. Pasternak’s professional affiliations include Distinguished Fellow and Life Member of the American College of Physician Executives (ACPE), Trustee 1991–1994; Secretary/Treasurer, American Group Practice Association, 1992–1994; Fellow of the American College of Physicians; Past Member of the American College of Healthcare Executives; and Past Member of the American Medical Association; Councilor, New Mexico Medical Society 1981–1990.
